anyone have the Pacific Coast Imports PS-3000 skimmer??

I just received my new Pacific Coast Imports PS-3000 skimmer yesterday... this is NOT the recirculating one... it is the needle wheel model that comes with the Octopus turbine 3000 pump... I am a little confused at all the different Octopus/PCI skimmers but I know that PCI makes a good product and this one is the one I chose...

My question to anyone else that has this EXACT skimmer...the water outflow tube that came on my skimmer is vey tall, almost to the bottom of the collection cup and it does not move up or down very easily... and I believe you are spposed to adjust the water level in the skimmer with this tube. This tube looks more like the taller tube that comes on the Recirculating 3000.... I managed to get this tall tube off last night and what is left is a shorter gray tube but there is no telescoping part to it... in all the pictures of the PCI PS-3000 the water outflow tube appears to be shorter than mine and has some sort of telescoping ability...

here is a link to the skimmer that I bought...see how short the outflow tube is and it is gray... well mine is much taller and black and does not telescope up and down for water level adjustment

http://www.pacificcoastimports.com/p...ys%3D%26pg%3D2

can anyone help me out with any ideas on why mine is different. by the way I ordered it through www.reeftanksupply.com and it was shipped directly from Pacific Coast Imports itself, so I know that it came directly from the manufacturer.

Thanks!

Jenni

like i said i truely think you would be better off just cutting off that pipe and adding a gate valve mod to it instead of trying to adjust it with the riser tube.

that is normal, in the pic it is adjusted all the way down. It should come up to the bottom of your collection cup. While breaking it in run it a little lower - adjust bubble level to just above the gray twist off neck portion. Then when it starts collecting raise it higher and higher till you get the desired consistency.

when raising or lowering the tube - twist it at the same time, it will slide much easier.

and one more thing... lol... do not use the rubber washer that is supposed to be installed on the venturi attachment - it will block the airflow. If yours does not have that piece then disregard this comment.

I don't know... this pipe seems longer... and it doesn't "slide" at all it really takes some elbow grease to get it to move, even when twisting it.

Yeah, I did not put the washer in that came with it for the venturi.. it was really too small anyway/

One more thing I don't understand... how is the water level in the skimmer body raised or lowered simply by moving this pipe up ir down?

Wait a moment. The octipus ones I've seen you don't adjust the water hight by moving the pipe,.. you leave it in place and turn a ball valve on that pipe to adjust the water level.

This is the recerc model I'm talking about,.. so disregard this comment if your pipe doesn't have a vlave in it.

the water can only leave through that exit - if it is higher then the water must travel further up to spill out, hence raising your bubbles as well. does that make sense?

can you post pictures? it makes things so much easier for me..

this is the nw200 octopus - same thing essentially just a little smaller

number 1 is where I run the tube at,. number 2 is raised near the top of it's extension - it reaches the twist off neck.
