Anyone have an Aqua C Remora Skimmer?

I'm thinking about buying an Aqua C Remora skimmer to replace my hanging berlin wet/dry, but I'm not sure if it will fit my tank.

I'm looking for anyone who has one of these who can measure it and see if it will fit.

My acrylic tank has an opening at the back of the top which is 7/8" from the back wall. The opening measures 1 5/8" deep by 13" long. The tank is 18" high.

The Aqua C website says that the Remora requires and opening of 2" x 5". I emailed them and they replied that it only actually needs 1.5", but I want to make sure before a plunk down a bunch of money.

Thanks!

My tank is a 29G. From some other thread recommendations, the Remora should be good for it, the Remora Pro is a little too big.

Right now I have a Wet/Dry with skimmer, but my Phosphates are off the chart. I'm planning to swap the wet/dry/skimmer with a new skimmer only. This will hopefully skim better as well as keep my phosphates low. If I still can't get them low enough, I may eventually add a phosphate reactor, but this is my first step.

If you have a wet dry just unload the BIO balls and use it as a sump and then you can put a Good skimmer in the sump? (ASM/ Octopus/ Aqua C PRO/ MRC/)

Or is this a HOB wet/dry??

It's an HOB and not a large one.

The tank is too small for a yellow tang.

Your right, the AquaC should do very well for you. I thought this was a 180G tank, I must be getting my threads mixed up again

I can't help you on the size thing though, sorry.

all i know for fact is that a coralife super skimmer wont fit on an acrylic tank as a hob (the reason i now have a sump) i do believe the remoras were designed to work with acrylic and glass style tanks though. cant be certain as its been a while since i was looking at them.

It's not that they don't work with acrylic it is they don't work with Euro bracing!

Not all acrylic tanks have Eurobracing!

Yeah, you're right, I got him about 6-7 years ago when he was super tiny. I've had him so long now that he's like family. Over the years I've had a couple disease outbreaks, but he's always survived. I don't have the heart to get rid of him now.

We're currently house hunting though, which will be followed by REALLY BIG tank hunting. Once that's completed, he'll be getting a new home.

Not sure what Euro bracing is. Assuming it is the perminantly glued on top that only has a large opening in the middle, and a long thin opening behind it, then yet, I have Euro bracing.

Ok, all set. I ordered the AquaC Remora with Maxi-jet 1200, including skimmer cup drain fitting and Pre-skimmer overflow. If it doesn't fit, I can always sell it on eBay! Thanks everyone!

Euro bracing is the top piece that they glue onto acrylic tanks usually to support it. Some acrylic MFG's use black bracing similiar to ALL Glass tanks.

Euro bracing

no euro bracing
