Anybody use Tunze Streams?
I'm thinking about putting one of these in my tank. Right now I have four maxi-jet 1200s and really don't like the cluttered look of them, so I'd like to know how those who use the Tunze Streams like them. They are a little pricey for me, but what's another $300, right...eek!
Also, do you use a controller and how do you like the controller?

Looking forward to hearing response on this as well, since I haven't decided which route to go with for circulation/water flow yet. i.e. Little Giant and SCWD to 2 spray bars or a Tunze.

Hi Melissa,
I have been running a 6110 (on a controller) for about a year now and have been very pleased. The flow these pumps put out cannot be compared to any other I have seen. They are a little large, but Tunze makes a faux rock that they can fit in, which looks quite natural.

Is one Tunze large enough for a 90g? I have four maxijet as well and it is a mess in there.

The 6110 I use is on a 180.
The Strem is located on the overflow facing down the back of the tank in the 6' direction. The current from the Stream rebounds off the opposite end of the tank and can be seen moving a gorgonian 2/3 of the way back.

Steve,
Good to know! How did you mount it? Were you able to use the mounts that they sent with it or did you use the rock? I did see that they offer the rock to hide the unit, but geez, it's a little pricey, too. I don't mind the look of one of these versus four maxi-jets. I think if I got one of these, I could take out three of my maxi jets, which would be so nice!
It looks like most people place the tunze on the bottom pointing slightly up. I'm not sure I could do that in my tank unless I move some of the rock or place the tunze in one of the front corners. Hmmm...time to brainstorm!

I used the mounts they sent and hung it on the overflow box. I haven't purchased one of the rocks but saw one in person and it looks really good.

I agree, one of these looks alot better to me than multiple powerheads, and as I mentioned before, the flow from the Stream is much different than powerheads too.

I'll tell ya, Melissa, I had a pretty good plan for placement ahead of time, but once I hooked this pump up that all went out the window. It is impossible to explain the flow from these pumps, you have to see it in action to fully understand.

I'm sold! I've been looking at them since the first time you mentioned them, Steve. I really want to give them a try!

I have 1 Tunze Turbelle TS24 Kit in my 160 gallon tank and I must say that when both of them work together, it is way too much flow for me.
I have been using them almost for one (1) year and I must say that I haven't had any problems with them. They are great.......
Positioning in the tank could be a little bit tricky cause they are too powerful and they can blow all your substrate away. It requires some patience to find the correct spot to place them in the tank.
I haven’t done any maintenance to them and they are still running (maybe this weekend I will find the time to clean them……)
The controller is great and will allow you to program your streams as you wish.
Definitely a good buy.

Allyson,
Where are you going to order from? I've found them at two places - Premium Aquatics and Marine Depot. The prices are exactly the same but none in stock at either. Did you find them somewhere else?
Fatboy,
Can't you adjust the flow on these? I thought that's what it said in the description. Do you have to run them at full capacity once they are on?

I think they are in short supply again, Mellisa. You may want to check this Tunze forum for information on when they might be available:

I ordered mine from PA, but had to wait a month or so to get it.

Melissa,
The speed of the streams is fully adjustable, but if I run both of them (even at the lowest setting), the flow is too much for my aquarium. That's why I'm running them one at a time........ With one, i get a lot of water movement in my tank. You have to consider that I have an Iwaki 40 for my return and that also helps.

I just made the decision so hadn't looked yet, and I'm just putting in water this weekend and will be cycling so I won't need an additional circulation pump for ~4 weeks. A few of the LFS here in Houston have some in stock. I'm going to compare LFS prices vs. Mail order & shipping. Also I'm leaning towards the 6060 (which are in stock). I think it'll be enough flow for my softies along w/my return.

Fatboy,
Geez! That must be a lot of current. I was not quite sure how much I wanted to get, whether the 6000 or 6100. I thought the 6000 may not be enough, but knew running the 6100 full blast would be way too much (unless I remove the canopy and offer a laser/fountain show. Perhaps I can program it to dance to music like they do at Caesar's Palace?) If I can avoid having all other powerheads in my tank, that would be the ultimate. But I worry about the substrate.
Two questions -
1. How adjustable are the 6100s? Can you turn the stream way down? This way if I get one of those, I know I will be able to adjust it over 1800gph if I find the right location for it?
2. Do you all have to supplement flow with any additional powerheads, or do the Tunze completely handle the job? (of course, this is not including return pumps)
Thanks again, and sorry for all the questions.
Melissa

Melissa,
The stream 6000 can move from 660.4 to 1,849.2 US gal./h
The stream 6100 can move from 1,056.6 - 3,170 US gal./h
The size you choose will depend of what you want to achieve in your tank..... maybe for softies you don't need a lot of current.
I just have the streams in my tank and no additional powerheads.
