Anybody drill their tank before

I have a 30g glass aquarium that I want to drill instead of using an overflow. I want to install a 1 1/2 bulkhead as a drain. Are their drill bits made to fit the outer diameter of the pvc and compensate for however thick the pvc walls are?

You can find many different size diamond coated drill bits at http://www.ameriglas.com/ however, they are very expensive. i bought mine and it cost me about $100 to buy two different size drill bit. however, it is well worth it in the end. it beats paying petland about $150 more to drill about 5 hole for me. just a suggestion.. also don't make the same stupid mistake i did... RUN LOT AND I MEAN LOTS OF WATER whill drilling. i was drilling my tank and all i needed was one more hole. i pretty much didn't run enough water and on top of that i was drill right under the sun with a black paint on the glass. good luck!!

Some local LFS or glass companys will drill your tank for you but be warned.... nobody will warranty the tank from possible breaks or cracks while drilling. I used to drill tanks at my old shop, I've done around 60 aquariums in all different hole sizes and haven't broken a tank or sump. The key is to find a trusted place, maybe ask around your LFS or ask your buddies because you can't really screw it up you just need patience, a good bit, and lots of water.

HTH.
