Question

Anybody convert a wet dry to more of a refuguim

Hey all, New to the site and really appreciate all your guys good info. Been working to seriously imporve my tank and doing some more homework to educate my self some. I have a 50g seaclear tank with the built in wet dry in back. My thoughts are leaning to move to more of a sustainable system. I like the refuguim concept but because of where and how my tank is set up a seperate tank below is my only option and it would not be easy to do without a tank move and some serious relocating of my eco system. So my thought is, has anybody tanken a built in wet dry set up and converted the bio ball area to a mini refuguim? I think i would just have to ad one piece of acylic for an extra divider and remove the bio-balls and would end up with a 13" x13"x4" space to set something up like sand and plants. Would the limited surface area be an issue?

Just trying to come up with some thoughts on its possible success or failure.

The tank has about 40lbs of live rock and a 2" live sand bed, I now relize i need more rock and will be working on that part of the equation. But other then that what else should i be thinking of?

For those who may be confused about what i am thinking about check marine depots sea clear tanks out(system II) Mines actually a uniquarium but it is very similar.

Thanks in advance,
danny

i would just remove the bio-balls and call it good. of course this is if you are running a low-bioload tank. if not then you may need to keep the bio-balls in there. imo that space back there would be to small to be used as a refuge. the more stuff you stick back there the more stuff you need to keep clean.
