Any one cut concrete in Appleton WI
Well my hope is to sell my two systems I have right now. And build a 350-400 gallon in a wall in my family room.
If I am unable to sell them I will move my 155 reef into a wall as well and I need to cut a 74” long by 36” tall hole in a block dividing wall. Has any one done this with a rental or am I better off paying a professional to do the job?

WOW.... I thought I was insane, with all my ideas.... That is Awesome. You want to cut into a block wall for a tank? Interesting... The worst I have done was take out my main support pillar to put a porthole in the wall so I can look into the side of my tank. My house almost collapsed, but it looks cool, now that is done This can be done just be sure that you don't damage the weightbearing structure, block walls are usually there to support heavy loads. My gut tell's me that you will have to be REAL CAREFUL!

so you wanna cut a hole in a cinder block wall? probably would use a different kind of saw than concrete
concrete is easy, rent a saw and hook up your hose to it. I dont know about cinder blocks that are already in place though

I agree, a little scary.... be very very careful and make sure that you don't lose the weightbearing structure, and put in any supports where necessary

Well I’m not worried about the wall it is a load bearing wall. I built cranes by day and I am going to make a stainless or aluminum header to go in place of the brick that is cut out or removed.

Why not just use PT 2X6 for the header like they do in normal constuction or install a lintel. Lintels are heavy esp at 76" long. make sure there are no poured cells and you should be ok do you have pics??

There's really no cutting. Break out the blocks with a sledge, and replace the odd openings with half blocks.

Well I thought of using PT lumber, but would have to seal it with sealant of sorts and with it being over an open salt water tankffice ffice" />>>
My concern with that is the sealant being exposed to the 100% humidity all the time and breaking down and getting in to my tank.

There's cyanide in PT. I'd go metal beam.

If I use a sledge hammer I will nock out all of the block above the hole I wall to keep a nice looking clean cut.
