Another critter ID.....

Ok, I couldn't even HOPE to get photos to cover this..... There is a "thing" in my tank that I would not have even noticed in the light. Under normal light he/she/it is a bit smaller than the head of a thumbtack, round for the most part, and darker brown in the middle fading to a slightly lighter brown around the edge..... about the same shades of brown as a choc chip star I think, but it has no legs. I have seen it there for weeks, it never moves, the ONLY reson it caught my eye is what it does at night. I have a blue LED flashlight that I use for night viewing, and just a day or two ago I noticed that under this flashlight he/she/it has BRIGHT ORANGE SPOTS on his/her/it's back. During the day I cannot even see where these spots might be. ANY idea what this thing might be?

Thanks

Hi flib,
I think we need a little more info to help out. Does it move? Does it attach to the glass or is it on a rock? Is it shiny, or matte? Rough or smooth? Does it have a shell?

I don't think it has a shell, it's a rather flat color, not shiney at all.

Rough or smooth..... um, smooth-ish I think.

It's on a rock, and beyond that you have about all the information I do....

Thanks

Well, my best guess based on the info is some type of limpet, maybe? Or there's a type of pod that grows flesh over it's shell (so the shell wouldn't be apparent), but if it was that, it ought to move.

No features at all, no breaks in the surface - except the orange spots under blue light, right?

Here are some links for Id-ing odd stuff. Maybe it will help you narrow it down?
