anemone feeding schedule???

I've recently added a nice size rose anemone to my reef tank. Diameter span is about 8", fully open. How often do these require food and what percent of their energy is derived from light?

Also, I've seen this thing shrivel up into it's tube and fully expand a few hours later. Is this typical of anemones? Are they expelling waste fluids and taking in new fluids?

I need an anemone specialist out there. Thanks.

I always fed mine when I thought about it, anywhere from once a week to once a month.

Mine was not healthy when I first got it (bleached) so until it regained it's color I fed it every other day.

From my experience, I feed my purple long tenacle and my green carpet when I remember. Sometimes the feeding schedule is once a week and other times it maybe once a month. Sometimes I feed them live feeder fish and some times I feed them thawed shrimp. My carpet anenome is about the size of a large dinner plate when fully open. He retracts himself inside to a size of about a golf ball. He has done this off and on for several years now.

Keep in mind most anenomes tend to wander. My purple anenome was in a spot for over 6 months. Now he has decided to move up the reef. Like wise my green carpet was in place for over one year and several months ago he decided to move to the right about 12 inches. One has to be flexible in moving other pieces around to prevent damage.

Good stuff. I may just feed it once a week, while I'm target feeding my mithrax crabs with little pieces of krill and/or shrimp. When I initially put this specimen in my tank, I placed it where I wanted it. Not to my surprise, it moved where it wanted to go.

What are the predators to watch out for anemones??

My BTA is looking beautiful during random parts of the day, then looks like death others. It shrivles and deflats down to about nothing...must just be expelling wastes and whatnot i hope...

At the end of the day, if you're confident in your water quality and the specimen looks great when deflated, you're in good shape.
