Question

am I having a diatom bloom?

Last Tuesday I added 32 lbs live rock to an already cycled 29 gal tank and have just been letting it re-cycle. This morning the tank was very cloudy. Levels are fine, just a very cloudy tank.

Is this an algae or diatom bloom or whatnot? I've had the lights on 8 hrs a day since Wednesday since I have some caulerpa in there. Should I reduce this lighting or get something else to treat this bloom?

Also some of the feather caulerpa is splotchy and faded. Just a normal die-off from being relocated? (it's all attached to a rock...)

Thanks!

I would suspect the culp went sexual. I am not an expert on algae sex, but from what I have heard they will fade and turn blotchy and cloud the tank. Is the cloudiness wellow or white? What type of lighting?
I suspect you are also in the midst of another cycle, since you added quite a bit of rock (compared to tank capacity.)

Just a couple of guesses, maybe someone will have a more definitive answer.

I would second the opinion that your caulerpa went sexual too. My tank had been clear for the last 3 months then all of the sudden it went cloudy and I just recently added a refugium with caulerpa too.
