Alternative to Durso in 120 Oceanic overflow?
Well, now that the 120 is up and running, I am seeing the noise issue with the overflows....
I don't know why oceanic made the ENTIRE standpipe perforated? I looked at the durso mod, but always looking for the simplest solution, I was wondering this:
Why can't you just buy a section of PVS the same diameter as the perforated tube oceanic gives you, cut it to about 3/4 of the overflow height and slip it in the slip bulkhead...You could then use a portion of the perforated stuff for the top (with a connecting PVC attachment) and have your sponge, etc on there.
Does that make sense?

you could, or look into a stockman style modification. AGA/Oceanic are sposed to be changing to similar overflow setup

I believe that AGA has already implimented that type of standpipe Doug. he older ones withthe float in them seemed to work ok but a little rattle now and then.
They do sell a conversion kit to go to over to the new model. I would maybe check with oceanic to see if maybe you could buy thier brand. I dont know if it would come into play with the warentee they offer or not. I know they are picky on stands thoguh
Hope this helps

Thanks,
I just went to Lowes and got some 1 inch PVS and a coupling......it works great to bring the water level up, and decreases the overflow sound, but causes a lot of gurgling....oh well
I'll email Oceanic or do it durso style

I fitted a piece of PVCinto the bulkhead, the length of my overflow (up to the water level) and left the end open and the water just goes down the drain, absolutly no noise. Maybe it'll work for you.

just go to the durso site and make one, they do not have to be glued together, and they will make the tank absolutely quiet. I have them in the new 180 with the new drilling that Oceanic/AGA puts in their tanks, with some modification to make uit fit into the new smaller overflows, it is a 1 hour project, including time to Home Despot ( unless your HD is 50 miles away... )

Yep, the Durso mod is super simple. I did not glue any of the upper half. Occasionally I pull the top part off for cleaning and to vacuum out the overflow. Totally quiet.
