Algae Question

I have noticed this weird growth (sorry I didn't get any pics yet), this weekend was CRAZY. If figured I would ask if it sounds like anything you have heard of first and I can always follow-up with a pic later.

So what I am noticing is this brownish stringy stuff...it is only about 1/4" long, very sparse and appears to have a whitish tip (I am not sure if that is just from the lights). Does anyone recognize this?

I will try to get some pics tonight when I get home...

is it coming up from the sand?? could be worms
