This is a picture of my tank before i scrubbed my rocks and was just running a phosphate reactor for 2 months. http://static.keebali.com/thereeftan...8_original.jpg

This is a picture of my tank after i took all the rocks out and scrubbed them clean and added 75 pounds of new live rock to it.(The algae on the sand is only from poor rock curing on my part and went away after 2 weeks) http://static.keebali.com/thereeftan...4_original.jpg

This is my my tank today 7-07-09 six months after the cleaning, i added a bunch more corals to it too and still going strong. http://static.keebali.com/thereeftan...4_original.jpg

I hope this helps. [/quote]

Hi, I can't wait to see some new pics of the tank !

I actually went a little nuts this week and Bought a Powder Brown on friday a Pink Anthias Monday and when i walked into my pet store today i noticed that one of my favorite fish that i always wanted but never wanted to spend $175 on, had barely a lateral line on it and my local fish store gave it to me for $80. A Purple Tang. I am happy to report that all of them fit right with my pack of fish and are getting along, except for my powder brown and Purple Tang. They just have a few words with eachother every now and then. They should be fine. Anyway fuzzybob keep us posted and i will also post a pic of my new fish as well. Good Luck

Hi, Tank looks a lot better than before. Now just vacuum your sandbed every 30% RO/DI water change (weekly). Beef up your clean up crew (Snails+Hermits,2 Sally Lightfoot Crab's ), 1 snail and hermit per pound of rock and limit your feeding. You should be good. Good Luck

I am now noticing some patches of hair algae here and there in my tank as well. I have way too many corals that have already based themselves on rocks to take my rocks out and clean them again. I have been doing a lot of research on hair algae and i stumbled upon something called Marine SAT and it is a Bacteria not a chemical that supposidy just kills algae like crazy and a really fast too. If anyone has heard of it or used it before please let me know. In this thread or Private Message me. I am thinking of getting it and trying it before my hair algae gets out of control again ? Thanks

well is 55g show tank, no Is not live rock unless you consider rocks that I found in my yard and broke them up and had them in my 29g bio-cube for about 2 years live rock.
I only bought 2 big pices of live rock wen I first set up my 29g bio-cube 4 years ago.

Hi, I have never heard of anyone breaking up yard rocks for a Saltwater fish tank but thats pretty cool and the rocks look good too. I don't think they would be considered live rock but they probably have live bacteria on them so maybe. Anyway i would still beef up your clean up crew to atleast 50 snails and 50 hermits. The rule for a clean up crew is 1 Snail + Hermit per gallon of water and pound of live rock.

Put it this way i have 110 gallon tank with a 30 gallon sump half full plus 150 pounds of live rock maybe more. That puts me at around 80-90 gallons of total water volume. I originally started with 75 Snails and 75 Hermits. 8 months later i noticed that i was down to about 25 snails and 25 hermits from them just dying over time and my Niger Trigger killing them occasionally. And my algae was starting to grow like crazy again because the crew was too small to clean the tank up. So two weeks ago i went to my local fish store and bought 50 snails and 50 Hermits because thats all he had in stock. Since i have an algae outbreak coming again and i don't want it to get out of control like last time, I had him order me another 75 Snails and 100 Hermits on top of the 50+50 i just bught and i really want more but i don't want to spend anymore money on them right now. I just spent $275 on just a clean up crew on top of the $150 i spent eight months ago. This is the most expensive hobby i have ever been in.

Hey Fuzz I have 10 margarita snails and am about to have 20 nassarius snails in my 24g nano. My rocks were covered. I bought 5 margarita snails and they cleaned most of my rock in about 2 days so I went back and bought 5 more . I originally had 10 nassarious but about 5 have died. I'm planning on getting about 15 or 20 more this week bc my sand has a lot of algea on it.

If you bought 20 margarita and 40 nassarious I think you would be very happy with the results.
