well now that i got my blenny and got a puffer fish today, I have to take out all the corals. also what about featherdusters do they need light?
The water that I used is out of a well so it never did this in my 29g bio-cube.

Feather dusters do not require light as they are filter feeders and will grab their food out of the water column.
I am on well water that comes from an aquifer that is 160 feet below my house. The water is very soft and has low TDS out of the tap. It is not treated with anything, but I still run it through my RO/DI filter before using it for my tanks. I feel it is much better to be safe than sorry, especially when you start adding up the total value of livestock in the tanks.
Hi, I had a serious Hair algae problem 6 months ago and there is really no way to get rid of it other than to take all your rocks out and scrub them and do 30-40% water change twice a week after that for like a month or so (ONLY RO/DI water). I did everything first used a phosphate reactor, vacuumed sandbed, tied a pipe cleaner to my siphon tube and scrubbed rocks with it and literally everything. The reactor is only going to stop more algae growth not kill the algae you already have because it will just feed off of itself. If you have any more questions just let me know. In my opinion just take a few hours one day and take 50% of your water out by vacuuming your sandbed really good and put it into a bucket/garbage pale and then take all your rocks out one by one and scrub them with a brush. You will thank yourself after when your algae is gone. It is much better than looking at your eye sore of a tank and trying all sorts of reactors and Methods/Suggestions. After that just watch your nitrates and have a good skimmer running and feed your fish less to keep nutrients down.
This is a picture of my tank after i took all the rocks out and scrubbed them clean and added 75 pounds of new live rock to it.(The algae on the sand is only from poor rock curing on my part and went away after 2 weeks) http://static.keebali.com/thereeftan...4_original.jpg
Hi, Thanks. When you say mushroom are you talking about my big Toadstool Leather that used to be on the left side of my tank ? If so, I left my Metal Halides on for like 18 hours one day and i completely cooked my leather and a few other corals. I left them alone and everything else recovered except that big Toadstool Leather so i took it out because it was making my protein skimmer go nuts because of the pollution it was putting into my tank. That big thing in the middle of my tank at the bottom is actually a huge colony of purple tip hairy mushrooms. I bought a rock one day at my local fish store with 1 brown hairy mushroom on it about the size of a quarter and a year and a half later thats what it turned into.
Anyway have you had any luck with getting rid of your algae ? By the way what size tank do you have and how much rock do you have in it ?
I washed all my rocks and moved them around and I need to get some more large rocks to build up the highth some. I tokk all the corals out because I put apuffer in the tank that diyed in 2 days and they were getting covered in algae. so I put them in my 29 and there doing a lot better.
i had this same problem i got a lawnmower blenny and it died after eating some i don't know why.but feeding less and haveing the lights run less seemed to help
Here is my suggestions for you. Dont buy anymore fish until you get this under control they dont need the stress. Use only ro/di water. If you dont have a ro/di unit some lfs sell the stuff(you will need to buy a unit in the future). Cut way way back on your feedings. Dont add anymore live rock to your tank. You can add dead rock. Syphon your sand when you do your water changes. I would do weekly water changes until you get this under control.
