Air stone, Bubble Maker, Do I need it?

Currently in my tank I have 2 koralia powerheads and also a bubble maker or airstone whatever it is called. I was told by my local fish store long time ago that for reef and marine tanks a airstone (lots of bubbles) is essential.

I am just wondering if anyone else can comment on whether i really need the bubbles or not. The problem is it creates too much bubbles and the powerheads end up spreading the bubbles around and you get little fine bubbles all over the tank and it sometimes looks bad.

I have plenty of movement on the water surface as my protein skimmer pumps water back in, and my filteration water also comes back in.

No, you don't need the bubbler, I've never used one in a SW tank. A proteen skimmer would be a good investment at some point though,.. That uses bubbles to remove waste from the water, but it's mainly helpfull for cleaning the water not airateing it.

No you don't need them but keep them, if your power goes out and you can use them with a generator or if it runs on battery.

I used one in my beginning years when there were no skimmer as yet to use. A skimmer came out I think it was like in the mid or early 60`s but dont take my word on that for which I forget exact dates being that it were so long ago. But the skimmer which first came out was to set inside the tank itself.
