Agressive Tank Questions

G'Day!

Ive been thinking about setting up a tank to house some of the more aggressive, yet beautiful fish we've always wanted.

What i want to know is, (tank size, and cleaning/filtration aside) (i know most cleanup crews wont last)) does anyone have any compatablilty info regarding triggers, ie; Clown, Odinus/Niger, Queen and Picasso triggers getting along in the same tank? Also how would they do with a Volitan Lionfish?
Would any of them attack/bother a mid size Snowflake Moray?

Sorry if im slow to reply, dont have constant access to the net atm...

TIA.

hi,
i would run with at least 100 gallon for what you have here...
the lion can get pretty big, but so can all of them...
not sure about how each trigger will get a long with each other.. but you snow flake should be cool. make sure you have some nive spots for it to hang out. and thinkof something to cover the top. snows are known to be "jumpers".. some people have never had this happen , some have..
i woul dthink a heavy flow and since they are all basically live feeders a protein skimmer and a good amount of carcoal..ssince this is a FO tank right? i wonder if a wet /dry or trickle would be fine... i knew that bio balls are not good for reefs but since this is a FO tank it might be okay..
HTH some

Thanks Tims!
Yeah it would be FO.
And i would make sure it was a good size tank, so they could all claim their own territory if they had to.

--> Oh yeah, id make sure it was well covered, ive heard of eels climbing up pipes, etc, and slipping up and out of the tank. Not a pretty thought...

Don't try to house the lionfish with triggers/parrots/puffers. These fish tend to view the fins of the lionfish as hors d'ovres.. Nothing sadder than a lionfish with all its fins eatten off.

You might want to take a look at Grimreefers.com which is devoted to predatory SW tanks. They've got some interesting Mantis vs Crayfish videos--if you're into that sort of thing.

Ditto on what Tim posted on tank size,,bigger the better,,,also mechanical filtration is very important , as most of these fish are messy eaters, and take in a good deal of food,,,and we all know that: what goes in , must come out.

As long as the tank is decent size for the inhabs(keep in mind growth on some of these fish) , good filtration, more than what is used in the average tank,,,you should be able to keep your choices together without much, if any trouble,,,

My 180 has two eels(snowflake-Mexican moray) 2 1/2 -3ft
'bout a 5-6" porcupine puffer,
a 10-12" Volitan Lion
a 6-7" Clown Trigger,,,
10" Queen Angel
4" H.Tusk

No problems in the tank, as far as aggression toward each other, it does get a bit "dicey" around feeding time , if they are a day or so late for feeding (eels-lion) but it's only them trying to each get a piece of food b4 the other ones get to it.
All the "Meaty" eaters in the tank are eating frozen type foods, along with pelleted foods, nothing live in the way of feeders have been in this tank for 10-12 yrs.

The Queen trigger could play hell on all your other fish. Notorious for beeing a real #$@%. We use to keep a 240 FO, containing a pinktail trigger, crosshatch trigger, bluejaw trigger, niger trigger, lunar wrasse, sailfin tang, tenetti tang, lion, snowflake eel, chainlink eel, zebra eel, and threadfin snapper. All did great together.

Ditto on the Queen Trigger,,,they can be a PITA to other fish and your hands/arms while in the tank.
Other than nesting Damsels, the only other fish that bothered me (and I have bothered a few over the years ) while divin' in the Keys , was Queen triggers.Used to follow us around an' nip at us,
OWWWWWWWWW!

think you should seal off the tank and throw in a snow flake eel

Thanks for the replys.

Any idea if a larger Dogface Puffer would be able to hold his own with a tank of Triggers?
