AGA corner overflows

Anyone have an predrilled AGA with the corner overflows? They have teeth at the bottom that are obviously going to get covered by my DSB, but I was considering drilling some new holes about 6 or 7" up. Do you think they really make a difference? Not even worth the trouble?

Want to get opinions and do it now while the tank is still empty.

Thanks-
John

Hi John,

Our 120G reef is an AGA with predrilled corner overflows, slots on the bottom. The slots were high enough up that they used to work. Now they are mostly covered with sand, I believe, and other stuff, and so I'd say they aren't working. The other things we did keep the circulation going all over the place better than those slots, anyway. That's all explained on our "setup" page from the website that's auto-posted below.

hth,
Shirley

Shirley, thats not a bad idea (running the 3rd line over the top)

I will have to look at my setup and see I can work something like that out.

Thanks,
John

It still works after 3-1/2 yrs, too! Did you notice we also have a powerhead running a pvc pipe across the bottom, shooting forward and 45 degrees upward? I believe a Maxijet 1200 runs that.

Take care,
Shirley

Yes I noticed that as well. That must be nice especially since you don't have to worry about a siphon if the pump stops.

How big of a hole do you have to break siphon in your 3rd return line?

I think it's a 1/8" drill bit hole. There are a about three so that if one gets clogged, the others hopefully work. They are below the natural water line, but above where the water line would be when it stops draining to the sump.
