Adding New Fish Tommrow

Currently in my 30 gallon tank I have 1 very lonely yellow-tailed damsel. I really dont want him to become territorial and I am feel I am over feeding with the few flakes i give twice a day so I would like to add some more fish tommrow. I understand that a yellow tang will out grow the 30 gallon tank but the wife really wants one and Im willing to deal with that issue if he becomes a problem.

I know that I will have to adjust the fish slowly to my tank water by slowly dilutling the LFS water with mine, but what is the next step. Since Im not that worried about carrying over diseases since these are the first fish I have Im not going to use a quarntine tank, will a quick fresh water bath due? What is the exact protocol for a freshwater bath?

Also how do I pick out healthy fish and the LFS and is there anyway to try and introduce the fish so the damsel doesnt go crazy? Also I have read here that clowns prefer a friend, how much benefit is there since that would fill my tank and if the do prefer a friend should I get the 2 at the same time and put them in last. Lastly when I upgrade my lights I plan on putting a bubble aneome in, should I wait and introduce the aneome and clowns at the same time? Any other hints would be great.

Right now the timeline is-
Tank started 9/1
Yellow-tail Added 9/8
Add Today Either 2 clowns or a Yellow tang and Fire shrimp 10/10
Add The Last 2 Fish ~12/1
Buy Lights 1/1 add start slow upgrade to coral/aneomes

Lots of questions here, you are probably not going to like some of the answers

Yellow tang is not fit for a 30 even as a baby. You will have a very stressed tang if you put it in there.

THe damsel will be a holy terror sooner or later, not as much so as a blue damsel perhaps, but territorial none the less.

Clowns do fine w/o nems. Even 1/1 will still be an immature tank for a nem. Nems require very pristine water quality, IDK what your filtration is but it will take a pretty beefy setup if you are wanting to keep 5 fish in a 30 to keep the water clean enough for nems.

I would get a frozen food, once rinsed they contain less phosphates than flake foods. You may want to feed every other day rather than twice a day.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

Hmm, Im not suprised but I am a little saddened about the yellow tang (my wife really likes um and it had taken some convincing to downgrade her from the regal tang to the yellow) Can anyone suggest a pretty swimmer for this tank?

So feeding frozen food every other day is better then flake twice a day?

Should I add just 1 clown and the Fire shrimp this weekend or should I go with the 2 clowns and wait on the shrimp?

As for the nem I can wait on that for a long period until I have the protien skimmer I want.

I like clowns in pairs because the domestic disputes are strangely entertaining for me... but they do fine solo as well. If you are not going to use a QT you may want to hold off on the fire shrimp. If the first fish that you put in has ich, you could still do hyposalinity in your tank if there were no inverts. Any invert is going to be killed by any treatment for ich as well as many treatments for less common ailments.

A FW dip you will need to match temp and ph in RO water. A dip is mainly effective against external parasites and won't "cure" most things as much as knock them back. I use FW dips mainly for corals who may have parasites.

Sounds great, I really like the idea of 2 clowns. Especially since they fit my small tank size. I think that Banganni cardinals are another option for this tank. From what Ive read these are good for a small tank, semi agressive fish, that are swimmers. Am I right here? I wanta place these fish somewhat quickly to try and prevent the damsel from marking his ground. 2 clowns, a Damsel, a Banganni Cardinal, and eventually a fire shrimp(in that order) Does this sound reasonable? Can you suggest a pretty swimmmer besides the banganni cardinal that will fit in my tank?

Never had any cardinals so I can't say. You may look into a yellow wrasse for your tank. IIRC they are not quite so feisty as some other wrasses and are a pretty yellow similar to Ytangs. I am trying to remember if wrasses are supposed to go in first or last. I think it is last If you are still looking into it later I will look it up but I gotta get a little work done today

I dont think the yellow wrasse is possible because I have crushed corral ~5mm in size not sand and it seems that they are burrowers. I also have to head out for the day but will check back around dinner. Thanks so much for your help.

I will look into the food situation about frozen foods even though I am somewhat timid to move from the ease of flakes.

Will the clowns still bond to a nem if the nem is added 8 or 9 months after them?
