Added some styrofoam..........
Hey,
I added some styrofoam to my stand today. I cant get over how much it cut the noise down!! I will be adding some more to the doors when i get some more.
I only covered 3/4 of the back of the stand. I wanted to leave some open to vent. I am sure if i did all of the back it would make it almost silent but the heat build up from the pumps would get to hot.

I only wish i did this a year and half ago!! I will also be working on the left side of the stand where all the power cords are. Will be adding it all on that side then getting some screws that are long enough to go through the foam and still hold the power strips.

Was the noise from the tank a problem?

Not that it was a problem it just silenced it even more than it was. So it made it even better. There was never a problem with the noise on the tank just now you cant hear it!!

Anyone looking to silent their tanks even more than what they are use some styrofoam!!
I plan on using some in the canopy next so it will help with the light that escapes form the front of the canopy.

i prefer open cell foams to styrofoam, but both work very well at quieting the tank. another great sound deadener is fiberglass insulation.

Any dangers if the styrofoam gets wet? Can you really clean it or will it kinda crumble? This sounds like a great idea, I feel like my tank is way too loud.

Well, if the styrofoam gets wet with salt water from an accidental splash or something, will it decompose or some other weird reaction? Or would it be no worse than if I had gotten the wood side panel wet?
