Question

Actinic lighting

Hello,

I have a fish only 65 gallon tank and I have just your standard light bulb to keep it lit. I was thinking of getting an Actinic light bulb because I like the way they look how the light waves are in the blue side of the spectrum. I was just wondering if it would be a waste to spend the money on this light bulb if I don't have any corals, also would this light bulb promote more algae growth and could some day lead to an algae problem? Thank you!

Deffinetely not a waste of money, in my opinion it makes tanks look 100x better then without actinics. Shouldnt cause any algae problems at all.

An actinic puts out less usable light than a whiter bulb. It is less likely to contribute to algae growth than other bulbs. It is mostly used for the color, so if you like the way it makes your fish look then it is not a waste at all.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.
