Question

Acrylic

Hey all,

What is the best way to remove a few scratches out of acrylic? Do the kits really work and what brand to you recommend?

Thanks,

Dr. Rick

If the scratches aren't deep, you could just try a liquid polish like 3M's Machine Glaze (3M-05937). Use a back and forth motion, not a circular one or you could get some swirling. Take a small area, first polish vertically, then horizontally, then let dry and wipe clear and see what you get. If that doesn't work, you can try a rougher liquid polish called Extra Cut Rubbing compound (3M-05936) or even use some 2500 to 4000 grit sandpaper and finish back up with the Machine Glaze. Use the same motion with each product. All of these should be available at an auto supply house.

Good luck!

BTW, keep in mind I had to do a wholesale polishing of this tank. The polishes that I mentioned are kinda spendy, about $30 a bottle, so if you really only have a small area to do, you might be better off buying a kit. I'm hoping someone will chime in who's used one.

Yee haw...polishing I just polished out a 125 and that word is a misnomer! It was hard work! It was really scratched though. How much scratching and how deep? Is the tank in use or empty? I didn't use a kit, I used three high grades of sand paper and auto-acrylic polish from a body repair shop.
