A small ? about Carbon/GFO

Hi, so I bought a Dual Carbon/GFO reactor from BRS and i know i suppose to run GFO in the 1st catridge and Carbon in the 2nd catridge. Can I not run the carbon and just the GFO for both catridges ? would it help removing the phosphate better (im trying to fight the algae)? advantage vs. disadvantages? Thank you!

GFO will maybe help you out of phosphates sooner, but you have to find out what is contributing to your phosphates, cut on your feedings and stuff. I used to run GFO but only for about 3 weeks then stopped haven't any algea yet. just staying on top of your WC and feeding. I wffed about once every 3-4 days.

Too much GFO can be bad for your tank if introduced too quickly. You have to step it up gradually.

thanks guys, i guess im gonna run GFO on both catridges until the algae is gone then im gonna run the carbon. Any idea how often should i change the GFO if i run 'em on 2 catridges? i think i can use it longer than if it's only on 1 catridger right?

initially, no longer than a couple weeks, then after a few cycles like that, drop down to a week longer between changes, working your way to eventually getting to monthly changes.
