65 Gallon SPS Build
ok ok ok....I've finally decided on some stuff about the direction I'm going with my setup and hopefully will stick with it LOL
I'm taking my current mixed reef and selling off all my leathers and zoas and some LPS. I want to get rid of what I can and temporarily place everything in another tank while I break this down, clean it and set it up as an SPS dominant tank.
Follow me along my journey, will you?

Well your current tank looks nice. Im usually a fan of a lot of rock, but its pulled off nicely with little rock.
While youre undergoing a big make over, how about going to BB while youre there? I think itd be worth while.

BB is the plan I sold lots of coral yesterday. I also traded some for this pump. I'm going to see if this pump will be be enough for some spray bars I plan to use.
The pump is brand new My only concern is the output diameter, it's only 3/4"...I want to use 1" pipe for my spray bars...should I be concerned that going from 3/4" to 1" would lose to much flow?

Oh btw, I plan to use more rock with the new setup. I'm torn between Leo's BB setup and Fly's BB setup...Two outstanding tanks.

WOW! That is quite the pump,.. 445W? That will suck more than your MH by a long shot since your running it 24/7. Your planning on a chiller right?
Edit to add:
Remember,.. that pump is going to pull about 4 Amps, so please take that into account when you are deciding which devices to plug into which house circuit, I'm assuming your breakers are 15A and I never like to pull more than 11 through them just to be safe.
As far as your question goes, there is no loss going from 3/4 to 1" so you need not be worried about that If you were going the other way then it would be a consern.

I am sitting here at work thinking about that pump and how I can utilize it...Then I thought I could take advantage of it 44' head.
I'm wondering how feasible it would be, or how practable, to run plumbing from my garage, which is about 20' from where the tank is, and operate the sump out there. In the winter. This would give me the advantage of more room to work, the noise would be out there, the pipes might ( big might ) help keep the water cooler by running underneath the house.
The disadvantages would be a hole or two in the floor for the plumbing, the possible winter temps being too cold, and just the simple fact that this wouldn't work the way I expect it after doing all this work
Any thoughts anyone? If you've ever run a remote sump, I'd LOVE to hear your suggestions

That's allot of power,.. it really is. How much do you pay per KWH for power?

Why is a remote sump a huge headache? What problems do you have with it?
I'm intrested because one day when I get a house I would like to do the same thing

its really just lack of room...It wouldnt be a problem if I had an entire room to work with....it makes sense if you have an in wall tank but mine is on a stand and just made it more difficult to access certain areas. Just plan it really well and dedicate an entire room to it.
I had alot of experience trying to make things more complicated than they really are Now my systems are just, protein skimmer, live rock, lighting and flow.

Aah,.. right on I would like to deticate a room to a sump when I get a house,.. not a huge room, but big enough that I can keep all the junk in there
Thanks!
