I also test for everything I add to the tank. Master test kit for pH, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite. Seachem test kits for Calcuim...etc.

I test my SG and salinity with a refractometer.

I think I'm just getting bad info from my friend and LFS.....

I'm not trying to jump ahead, I've just been told everything I'm doing is ok. I'm not adding expensive fish and sensitive inverts, just a few guys to help cycle.

Sorry for the lack of pics and updates. I've been very busy lately...yard work!! Anyway I made a lid for the reservoir/refugium.

Then I put 15lbs of Bermuda Pink on the reservoir side.

Now here's the reservoir side.

It goes in the side of the stand and here's where it ends.

Here's the Auto Top off float. I made an acrylic mount for it. It works great!!

I made the Auto top off using a design from:

It works very nice and beats the heck out of adding a gallon a day by hand. Or forgetting and seeing micro bubbles explode out of the return line.

I'm going to test how many days I can actually go with out filling the reservoir. I'm not sure how many gallons it holds.

Auto top off is a great invention! I did the water hauling thing for a while. The had a 10g for a top off resovoir. Gto tired of filling that when I got the 150 going so the new one will be hooked into the house, Can you guess i get lazy??

And this pic again, this time focusing on the baffle. Before I put this in I was getting lots of micro bubbles in my display, because the return pump is right under the skimmer output.

Youre really cranking on this thing now! that top off is not only better gor you it makes the tank much more stable. Before I installed an auto top off i would forget to add water sometimes and that just puts too much fluctuation in the system.

I added 100 hermit and snail shells, I got them off ebay for $12, they are really cool. Most of the blue leg and scarlet have taken up new homes from the shells. The red leg seem to like their old shells? I guess they're just not ready for a bigger shell yet.

My yellow tail has a great personality, he's always interested in what I'm doing, he watches me do everything. He doesn't act scared unless I put my hands in the water.

Well my auto top off / refugium is still holding....

The auto top off is awesome, what a time saver. As for the refugium, I added 15lbs of Bermuda Pink, I got a Maxi-Jet 400 running, and Corallife lighting on top. The lights are 9W 10,000K and Blue actinic, it lights it up pretty good. Nothing for a coral but it should work for a refug.
