8" is probably a little better since most skimmers are suggested in the 8" depth range. Again, knowing what skimmer your going to slap under it would help to know hove high to make the water level

P.S. Avoid the super skimmers .

I use acrylic in my sump. There is a silicone called lexan that is sold near the acrylic sheets at lowes that will adhere to both acrylic and glass and the setup time is only 24 hours. It does turn yellow over time, but mine has been holding well for nearly two years.

But I prefer glass since you need thicker acrylic to avoid warping under the weight of the water. I used 3/8" for a 18" span and I should have stepped up to 1/2".

What do you mean by super skimmers exactly?

For lighting, how big should each fixture be? Is it easier to have a canopy or could i just have 2 pendants? What brand or light fixture should i be looking for or would work good for this tank?

The coralife super skimmer you mentioned

Lighting is a huge decision... What are you looking for? The nova extreme pros are a decent entry level t5ho.

Im looking for something that isnt crazy expensive but can keep clams and birdsnest coral along with zoas, mushrooms, hammer/frogspawn/torch, even if i have to keep my birdsnest and clams near the top of my tank, i really like soft corals better than SPS but would be nice to be able to have a little of everything. What would be the cheapest way to be able to keep some SPS and clams, even if they have to be close to the top? Since the tank is narrow my aquascape is going to be more built high, possibly on 3 pieces of PVC going towards the top of the tank and then i would keep SPS more towards the top if needed. Forgot to mention also want a RBTA
