5 gallon bucket refuge
Building a 5 gallon bucket refuge tomorrow. Let me know what you think about the design. Its the cheapest route I can go.......and it still work efficiently. And I know a lot of you guys dont like them.....and I am just using it to culture food on the side.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

I dont have room for anything else under my tank except the bucket. It will be right next to my sump. In all honesty.....I will probably just use it to house macro algae....and let it suck out nutrients. I had one before and enjoyed it. I am tossing around the idea of using a filter sock on the drain. But im not sure yet. I already use one on the drain from my main tank.

Yes. It will suck water from my sump into the bucket, and then the bucket will drain back into the sump.

I thought about just hooking up my drain from my main tank.....but that just seemed like disaster waiting to happen.

I always thought that your flow should be really really low. My flow will be around 10 gal hr.

If setup right it will work just fine
Basically it's no different than how you currently have it mapped out with feeding it with a powerhead, you just move the tank drin into the bucket instead and then let the fuge drain into the sump like you had previously planned.

Well I was thinking about if I put the bulkhead in the bucket.....and then use a T to let the water drain down into the sump first....I can always throttle that back making the refuge only get a drizzle of water. Still working out the kinks. I was going to build it today......but my work called me in. So ill keep on the drawing board until I decide. I do know that draining the tank into the refuge would be a LOT easier, and it would consume no more electricity. So if I can figure that out.......thats how I will do it.
