40" tall stand. Too tall?
So I'm in the middle of my 125 build and want the tank to it up high. I will biuld the tand from 4x4 corrners and 2x4 around. I also plan the screw it into the wall studs behind the tank. Do you think thats too high?
I know that will bbe a pain to aquascape but thats why they make step ladders right?

one of the annoyances i have with my tank is that i have to bend in the middle to look into it the way i want.... as long as you don't mind using the ladder to access things, there shouldn't be a prob....at least none i can think of.

I built one that is exactly 40" to the bottom of the display. It's the perfect height for me. You still have a great view of the tank while sitting, and you don't have to bend over to see inside it while standing. It also keeps the 5'2" wife from messing with the tank

it might be a problem for me at 5'8" during maintenance but I agree it would be a nice display height. as long as you don't plan on being shoulder deep in it every day I think it would be an excellent height.

My inwall is about 42" tall. It is great for viewing. I am not that tall (5'9") so I have to use a step ladder any way. I figured what is the difference between 2 steps or 3 steps?

I hope not, I built mine at 43". Mine is about 6" wider than the 125, so it's a bit more stable, but I've not had an problem with it. Like bender, I keep a 4 foot ladder in the house to do maintenance on the setup.

just think of all the room underneath. so much easier to access everything. makes u want to clean the sump out more often. i say go for it.

40" sounds fine, lots of room under stand. While you have the tools out build a stable long step that runs the lenght of the tank. Use a 1"x12"xlength that will fit in front of the stand w/doors open with supports as needed. Then you can finish it to match the stand and be able to work the length of the tank w/out having to get down and move a small step or ladder around. Just an idea, good luck.

Thanks Guys!
Having a Tri-Level house there is a ledge along the room that is 40" tall so thats were I want the tank to sit. That way it actually sits 8" closer to the wall...
Actually the added room underneath is a bonus but the sump skimmer and reactor and other equip will be in the room behind the tank...

I like taller stands, mine was around 38" as I recall, the earlier tanks had lower store bought stands and I was always bending to look

That sounds like a great height to me as well and probably what I will do the next time I am setting up a new system.

And that was actually a factor in my stand height... I was trying to cram a 30" tall skimmer in there. But in your case, that wouldnt really matter.

Ditto, I have a 40" stand for the sump (that has a 55 gallon acrylic tank for a sump), and I still do not have enough room for the skimmer (MR3) and the Ca rector (CR6), which I just cut a hole in the wall and moved the equipment into the room under the stair well behind the wall. It is my wet room now. i can view the tank without having to bend over, and I still wish I had builit it taller.

My first stand was designed to be viewd from the couch. WAY too short. The new one is around 40. Love it.
