316 SS MH Pendant??

I'm just starting to build my mini pendant for a nano tank. The pendant will house a 150W double ended MH bulb and a 24W actinic PC bulb. I am using this guys shop and he suggested that I use 24 gage 316 stainless steel and not to paint it. Well, I cut some off of his sheet stock and blued it for layout. Before I go any farther, has anyone made a pendant out of 316 SS and how has it worked out? I wonder why one doesn't see these items in the industry? I would think that it would be a great material to use because you can spot weld it and that you don't have to finish it.

Wood is so easy to work, not everyone has access to SS and the tools to work it,but it sounds kewl
