30 gallon tall build

Well all this "fish tank stuff" as my dad called it the other day finally got the best of him. he wants a reef in his living room. when he told me this he said, "i just want to keep it simple, ok?" HAHA!!!
thats an oxymoron in this hobby as i have found. but were gonna give it a try.

I have aquired a 30 gallon tall 24x24x12. this is perfect for him since he doesnt want anything bigger. although i think we should use a "sumpugium"...... in the words of salty o' shen..... and a skimmer, we will probably use a canister we already have for simplicity's sake, and rely on live rock and good flow for the rest. im gonna go ahead and make a prediction though......simple may lose this battle. first comes building a stand for the display, then lighting, LS, LR, Powerheads....etc., etc....you know the drill

so here it goes. (pics as soon as i have them)

we probably will get rid of the canister eventually and get him a HOB skimmer, but for now i think we will run it until the rock cures. which we will probably do in the tank.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

I generally don't like to keep track of what is spent on a tank... it is cool right now but if I knew what I spent on a year old tank I would probably cry.

It is better not to know the answers to questions like those at times.

For example, at work I keep my Coca Cola bottle caps figuring I may enter them into the Coke Rewards thing some day. The other day I decided to see how many I had and counted 70 of them. At $1.25 per bottle that means I have spent $87.50 since I started keeping the caps a couple of months ago. That is money that could have gone to a nice frag, but instead I drank it away. I would have been much better off had I never decided to count those silly caps.

yesterday was carpentry day. we started to build the stand out of handy panel. all it is is sanded plywood with no knots. we still have to cut out the doorway and build a door. its solid and level so far.

today is the day........i think we might get wet.

me and my dad hunted down some good looking base rock yesterday and finished staining the stand.

we have a couple of pieces of pretty well established live rock that were gonna use to seed the tank. the base rock is cooking right now to see if we cant get any phosphates or ther bad stuff out, and we bought a five gallon bucket of salt mix, and a 20lbs bag of aragonite.

pics later!!!
