3 month old tank... coming around

So i've had my tank up and running now for three months... so far no fish have died, this is a plus since its my first time with SW. My tank set up is this:
55g glass aquarium, homemade welded stand
100lbs LS
40lbs of LR going to get another 30 tomorrow hopefully.
fluval 305 canister filter
200 watt heater
prism delux skimmer
old freshwater flourescent lights

Cherub pygmy angle
two percula clowns
Sixline wrasse.

one of my lights just burnt out which is fine cause i wanted to upgrade. I'm looking at a T5 hood with 4x54w lights? think this would be okay?

I also am having to regularly clean off the glass with a brownish algae? i know its probably gonna happen but anything i can do to help minimize the cleaning?

Also any other suggestions on things to get? things not to do etc?
All help would be appreciated?

What do you plan to keep. The T-5 will make nice lights for most things.

Do you use RO/DI?

A better skimmer would help a lot too!

Oh yeah if there is anything other than carbon in the fluval fet it out of there! Just use it for flow and carbon if desired! The other media just traps and releases nasties into the water!

I htink there might be some bioballs... should i take them out slowly

As for water i was using tap water and adding the drops, but as of this week i've also used DI water from walmart but thats becoming a pain. RO/DI is pretty expensive right? any suggestions on where to get it? hard to use?

RO/DI is under $200. But will be much cheaper in the Long Run and your tank will be much cleaner and happier.

Yes slowly over about 2 weeks lose the Bio Balls!

I think that would be a great light!!! I have the 4 bulb Tek retro over my 50 (same tank as you, but 2 inches shorter) and it is plenty of light to keep SPS, LPS, and Clams, though this tank does have a few SPS, it is mainly a softie tank.

How exactly does that retro lighting work for T5, is it kind of like build your own hood?

Do you have a canopy or plan to build one? Basically a retro is the bulbs, wiring, balasts and the reflector.......no housing or case. You pretty much just mount it to the inside of your canopy.

So if you don't have a canopy or plan one you don't want the retro!
