3 gallon picotope aquarium
Just picked up one of these on clearance from the LFS for cheap. i went ahead and added water from my 55 as well as a couple LR's. I'd like to put a fish in, i'm thinkin about a 2-spot goby to help keep the sand clean

Think he'll be OK in there?

1st the tank needs to cycle and if you read the link you sent said you need at least 10 gallons.

all of there nano fish are generically labeled as "10g minimum" fish when some grow to 4" and some barely 2". I really think a 2" fish would be OK, but if you guys don't, I'll leave it as a frag tank.
Don't want anyone suffering or starving in there
does it really need to cycle when I'm using cultured LR and water from my 6 month old 55g?

I think any cycle you have will be minimal. I would wait a week or so before putting frags in though, just from all the stuff being stirred up from your sand. I've always wanted to get one of those pico reefs. Let us know how it works out.

I think that some of the very small gobies would work.

whoa, 3 quick comments right when i was posting. I'll get some pictures tonight, i'm in all weekend working on plumbing for my 125.
wish there was a small, algae eating blenny i could put in to keep the LR clean... guess a few snails will work.
I may stick with bare bottom to help control phosphates... not a bad idea.
I only have a couple of rocks in now, one needs to be cleaned of algae before i take pics...

There is a reasone for a min. size tank(just think of jail, they make a cell a min. size but to small is un healthy). They can at least go out and get exercise ,but the fish can't.
