Question

3/8" or 1/2" Acrylic Tank

I'm getting ready to order an acrylic 60X24X24, 150g tank. Please give me some of your opinions to the thickness, I have several quotes both ways.

Thanks for your input....................

I'd go half. Depends on how you are bracing it though.

I'm having it built, from all the pics I've looked at they all brace it across and around the top some...

Hi,

Wow ... 60x24x24, huh? Nice size.

My ideal would be 60x24x20. FYI, All the LFS and tank people I've spoken to so far have mentioned 1/2" thick for my size. An extra 1/8" wouldn't hurt.

Good Luck

You will be fine with 3/8" on a 24" tall tank. That is industry standard. However, you will get some bowing of the front and back panel. 1/2" will be no noticeable bowing...

Here is a pic of mine I just completed...3/4" front, top and sides. 1/2" black bottom and back...

Full documentation can be found here

HTH,
Greg

1/2 inch, as even with toip and bottom bracing, the 3/8": will bow in the middle, quite noticable when viewed from the side, making cleaning the glass a bit difficult.
