29 gallon closer loop pump

Hey everyone, im going to be starting a 29 gallon tank, and i would like lots of flow. I am not planning on having a sump as i really dont want to drill. So im gonna have an over the top plumbed CLS. How many GPH should i have a pump for, im not sure about head height but i wouldnt say any more than 4 feet, TOPS. I am possibly considering SPS so i want alot of flow, any pumps you suggest, thanks in advance

I am putting a Mag 5 or 7 on the CLS I am building now for the 29g. This will have two outlets and go through a SCWD which is supposed to hog some of the flow.

I think that a really good pump for that size tank (which is what i have but it is softies only) would be a blueline velocity T2. Super quiet, super dependable and would push about 600 gph. Lots of folks swear by the velocity line of pumps. Just my .02

I second the suggestion for a Mag 7. That should be about right.

How many output's on the CLS?

As for head...if you're not having a sump, I suggest having the pump as close to the tank as possible. I believe Geoff has a pic somewhere (can't find it right now), of his CLS where the pump was on the back corner of the tank.

He used a piece of acrlic (glued to the back left and back lips on the top of the tank)...thus forming a shelf. Then set the pump right on that.

This will give you maximum flow from that pump, as there will be minimal head loss.
