28G nanocube?
I am probably going to be getting a 28G nanocube with the HQI light.
I am debating on the setup. It will probably have SPS/LPS and a clam with a few fish.
BB or a thin sand layer (I like the look of sand much better)?
Keep the filter media in the sump part?
Care for the acrylic type tank?
Will using the following:
litremeter II for auto top off.
probably get a chiller.
B-Ionic
Any other main concerns with a small tank like this?

I would remove the media, go with sand becuase there isn't enough water to dilute polutants and the sand will work as a sponge, and if you are talking about the JBJ 28 HQI the tank is bent glass not acrylic.

I agree,.. ditch the media, go with sand,.. and get a skimmer if you can! They make this little junky one driven by an airstone,.. it sure leaves allot to be desired but it's only $40 and ANYTHING is better than nothing.
If it were me I would go with a sump and have a small skimmer down there,.. or cut up the top so I could use the Tunze DOC skimmer.

Rob,
Are you ditching the idea of doing a larger tank or are you doing both? Just curious..

Oh, I didn't know that, the 29G nanocube that AZIndy bought didn't.

go with a Solana... I've owned Bio-Cubes, Nano-Cubes, and a few others... the new Current Solana is definitely the best nano out right now. Look into it, it has a lot of nice features and a protein skimmer that actually works. If you don't like the light, remember you can order it with a Sunpod for it or an Outer Orbit fixture.

Yeah it's a pretty cool unit for the price, 150 MH, built in fans, protein skimmer, LED lights, it even comes with 2 return pumps and the JBJ wave maker controller

The Salona looks like a nice tank but $$$ and I want everything included. I dont want to buy tons of parts. Looks like it would cost ~$1300 with a chiller and an eyesore of a light hanging over it. The nanocube is ~$800 with a chiller.
Frank - I am not getting the 120G. That would cost $4000 just to get water into it not including rock. Not going to spend that much on a tank.

Rob,
I think you could do it much cheaper...seriously...
You can get a new RR 120 for like $350 (not sure how much the stand and top is - but surely less than $1000 for everything)
Skimmer - I think you can use an Octo NW-200 or the extreme 150 (around $200)
Sump and everything - if you use a 30 gal tank and some baffles less than $100
Return pump less than $100
Lights (depends on what you want to do, but you could get a nice VHO system for less than $300 - which would be fine for FO and some softies)
And Rock and Sand...just buy the cheap sand (not the Live stuff) and buy mostly base rock (I have gotten some awesome lace rock at Blue Zoo - I need to get some pics) for $1.05/lb - then add some about 50 lbs of LR for $250 or so...if you wanted 100 lbs of base and the rest live you could do it for less than $400.
Just my $.02...I think you can get it done man...and bigger is better (look at what Ion is going through with his nano) - they are more work IMO - you need to be on top of it all the time...
I know all of these prices for this stuff...I am buying it all now. With the tank and everything I am in the neighborhood of $1500 (no stand or lights - I had those). That even includes plumbing and everything...

Tank is $1300 with stand
Sump $100 (minimum) ($300 for a custom made one)
Skimmer $800 for a Euroreef or Bubbleking
Lights (for a reef) $800-$1000 (minimum is not more)
top off tank, pumps, plumbing $150 +
Then Electrician for new circuit $2500 (needs service upgrade and conduit and then what ever it costs to repave the driveway to where they dig it up for the new service.
