250W MH....would that be too much for a 19 hex?

Is 250W MH too much for a 19 hex? What is the best light setup for a RBTA? I don't plan on keeping sps in this tank....but I might be tempted to get a clam. Please help me decide on the lighting for this size tank. Thanks.

How tall is a 19 hex. I have found that it is better to have over wattage then under wattage on a tank, 250 watts like Twitterbait stated is very strong. but can be used.

I see...so 250 is no good for GSP or xenias? How would the RBTA react?

I think that most things will adust to the light, You have to take all factors in to account, If it was me and I was getting a good deal on the light. I would use it.

Keep in mind that that much light will heat a 19 like crazy. Either have a chiller or LOTS of fans!

Yeah, heat could be a real problem...

It's going to be in an AC room though, but I don't think it's cold enough to cool down the tank. The AC is at comfort levels.

I was planning on buying the 250W new, since it's about $159 from ocean encounters. Well, that's unless someone here has one for sale.

It's not too much, but you can get easily get by with 150/175.

rethink the 19g Hex, IME hex tanks are tall compared to their footprint, and not the ideal reef tank.
I take it you are contemplating a red morph bubbletip anemone, and prolly a couple clowns to host with it?
If thats the case and you are set on the hex tank format, look at at least a 45g or bigger, anemones grow large, and the clowns th
at normally host with them( Maroon striped, Tomatoes, etc are large (6") clowns, space will be an issue over the long run, but I gotta say that a 65g hex(custom, lower/wider) with a health E quad anemone and a mated pair of goldstripe maroon clown was an impressive site

159.00 for a 250 watt is a great price. get a 10k or higher bulb. or the light will be to yellow without actinic also and on that size tank it will be hard to have both.

Good point Vince, I like Iwasakis, but given the tank size I will have to give you that

yup, exactly, RBTA with a pair of percs. I'm just looking for something for my office, and a 45g may be a bit too large, and I'm on the second floor. Don't want the tank to fall right through or if the tank leaks...it's going to be a big mess.

Asking for your opinions...what do you guys think a used 19g acrylic hex with stand and canopy is worth?
