24g aquapod pump upgrade questions

so the aquapod is up stock and running great but i dont like the stock pumping the back sump. It is a bit annoying and i dont like the flow i am getting. It is a 280gph pump with a 5/8" output which is the same size the flex tube is going to the topof the sump(which i know i can change) and the hard plumbing is also 5/8" back into the tank. i wanted to use a mj1200 but its a 1/2" ouput so now what

got the mj1200 to work. i used the attachment that comes with the mj1200. it goes over the outlet and has the hole for the air tube which i of coarse pluged
