24g Aquapod build thread started(with pics)
Well I brought the Aquapod home on Friday night. Saturday I cleaned it out with hot water only, place the dry aragonite flamingo reef sand in the tank, and place the 20lbs of dead base rock in the tank. Last night I put the two large blue pads that come with the aquapod over to the far right where the water flows into the sump. I purchased purigen and seagel by Seacem and place them into two separate 250mm micro bags and placed them to the left of the pads. There is a bafle in the middle of the sump and to the left of that I am placing the rubble LR from my exsisting 12g tank for bio. The remaining large peices of LR in my exsisting 12g will go into the main tank area with the dead base rock. Continuing with last night i filled the tank with 18g of RO water(will be less when i add the rubble to the sump and large peices to the tank) and the placed a 1oz pouch of Bio-Spira which is live marine bacteria. Although I think i will be fine i wanted the added insurance. i will be adding my damsel today ot tomrrow and will add pictures

Just did a water test. SG=1.024 Temp 78-79(where my other tank is at) PH=8.2 Ammonia=0 nitrite=0 nitrate=0. I plan on taking my blue fin damsel and putting him in the aquapod today. I will then monitor to see what happens but i am hoping with the bio-spira and my cured exsisting LR everything will be fine

Anyone know a good lighting upgrade? I want to keep the stock hood to hepl with evap. so i was looking at the nanotuners 150w mh single bulbs. But they only offer 12.5k of 20k for that retrofit. Which bulb would be better? they also have a 144w pc retrofit.. i would like to keep all corals and a clam(down on the sand) so i am not sure if the mh would be better or the pc with more wattage

I'm not sure about the lighting, but the tank looks great! Didn't you want to use black sand though? What made you change your mind?

I would keep the heat issue in mind, even with the built in fans those hoods don't vent heat well.

mh according to nanotuners will burn up the hood. they said they have tried and tried over and over again and can not get the hood and splash guard not to melt. so pc retro it is or a fixture without the stock hood

after reading on the heating issues with the stock hood i desided to go with the current orbit 150w hqi fixture. i was going to get the 250w hqi but it might kill my soft/lps

I have the 24g aquapod. I had the stock hood for about 11 months. The fan stopped working well during the summer and I was afraid of it overheating the tank. I had it propped open like 2 in for 2 months or so. We finally made the upgrade to the 150 MH last month. Oh my goodness if I would have known how happy and how pretty my tank is with the new lights I would have purchased them months ago. So the replacement 10 dollar fan turned into 250 for the new lights My hubby even keeps saying that the new lights are the best thing we have purchased for the tank. I did take my hood off for these new lights. Not sure I would want to upgrade the lights in the hood. Knowing how hot the normal stock lights were I would be scared with MH.
Good Luck!
