20L or custom sump...

I'm trying to find a good tank that'll work as a sump for my 125. Really the only thing thats going to fit in there is a 20L (30x12x12).

Will I be OK with a sump this size, or should I get a custom sump made? I've checked around on pricing, looks like it'll run me about $250 for a custom sump. I just don't know if it'll be worth it when I can get a 20l today for $15....

I used a 10 gal glass tank with my wet/dry overflowing into via pvc pipe as a sump for my 55. Its not the prettiest but it works great and gave me a lot more room for my skimmer all for $30.

what would you define as "working"? what are your goals for adding the sump? place for skimmer, heater, ATO, etc?

it seems pretty small in comparison to your display but it would depend on what you want to get out of it.

I used a 20L for a 55 and it was great. The issue I see is the amount of flow you hav through it and space for an appropriate skimmer. If its the biggest that will fit then go for it, just leave enough space for the backflow when/if the power goes out.

i've got a 20l on my 55 also, if i had a display that size, i would look for a bigger sump personally. the flow through and the back-flow both being very important considerations. where is you space limitiation coming from: the footprint or the height or both?
