2003 TRT Reef Calendar??
Its not too late for us to get one of these set-up. I did a mock-up with my Hawaii pictures for you to see (and buy if you want).
Here's the store URL: http://www.cafeshops.com/reeftankstore These are located under misc. fun items.
There are wall calendars and monthly calendars. Here's the monthly one (this is the maui one): http://www.cafeshops.com/cp/prod.asp...kstore.4393454
and here's the year at a glance one: http://www.cafeshops.com/cp/prod.asp...kstore.4393105
If I can get 12 large, high quality (i.e. in focus, etc.), pics we can put together a 2003 TRT reef calendar.
If you have pics you'd like to submit, please let me know. Either post a small version here or a link to the pic. This would be a fun way for us to enjoy each others tanks and fish all year long

Brooke, not that i don't appreciate the effort you put into the calender(i would to go to/see Hawaii), but here's a thought:
how about a calender with mebbe TRT'ers tanks or Tanks of the Month,on a calender, different pic every month? just a thought,,,

I think we should do the "BABES OF TRT--Swimsuit Edition..."
Heck, Sports Illustrated does it, and it sells like hotcakes...

Yep exactly Jeff. I just made up that Hawaii one to give you an idea of what it looks like.
I'd love to have one of people's tank, corals, and fish pics. I can think of quite a few really nice pics already laying around here
So...send me those pics and/or permission to use pics you've already posted somewhere here on TRT!
Tom- ahem...Well..there is that pic of V from the picnic....other than that, I don't think an of us qualify.

Brooke,
I think this is a fabulous idea, and you could sell them on eBay as well.
Anyhow, if I were doing this for a client, I'd be using 300dpi .tif format for the print quality. Also, the physical size would have to be somewhat uniform, and a short ID would be nice under the pic.
SO...if these are taken in HIGH QUALITY mode w/digitals, at least 2.3 megapixel, or prints scanned at 300 dpi, then I could edit them in PhotoShop for lighting and color intensity corrections, follow the owner's cropping suggestions, and post them on my business site for you do download.
Regardless who edits them, I'd hate to see them go to print at 72 dpi, the usual digital format. Looks great on the screen, but not so in print.

For the better half of the reefers here, that would be great! However, I happen to know that the same concept was tried on a certain other reef-related bbs with one of our own male reefers (not me, fer sure) that drew no responses... Not to mention any names, but...
Hmmmmm... I think the rockwork beside a certain Islemorada lagoon would be the perfect setting... I am loading the Hasselblad up with big format film as we speak!

The hawaii images I uploaded were 2048 x 1536 pixels. Below are the specs for full bleed:
Bleed to 11.5 x 9, trimmed 11 x 8.5.
Minimum Resolution: 150 dpi
So...these do need to be large pictures to avoid having a white border around them. a lot of the folks here with digis can shoot them this large.
If we are able to get this organized we could do a bulk order to save some $$$. Bulk with cafe shops is 15 or more.

So does the printer use the digital image and change the print resolution perhaps to 300 dpi before printing?
High quality settings on the digital cameras will give the larger physical size you'd need for the calendar, as you said (2048 x 1536 pixels).
Cropping would eliminate unnecessary backgrounds and such on full tank shots. Often reef shots have dark areas or areas with too much exposure, which could be fixed before going to print. For those with excellent photos, but no photo-editing software, etc, I'm just suggesting and offering that the lighting and such be corrected before print.

Im not sure what or who Brooke is doing these through. But from all the details she's said, it sounds as if they use a Doc12 or something of the sort. Which is a Xerox Copy Machine capable of doing Firey prints.
The Firey will print the image in whatever DPI the post script was sent as. It can be changed "DOWN" manually before printing from the server if needed.
Anything worth printing at that size anyways, would need to be at LEAST a 3 megapixel camera, even then at that size at best quality, the prints wont be all that superb.
(Now if we could all just afford some of those nice new 5 MEga Pixel Cameras)
Here at work anything I print 11x17 or larger (Concidered oversize) I stay over 600 DPI. Insane File size yes, but much better quality.

Yep Shirley your help with editing the photos would be great. The quality of their products at cafe press is very good. We've ordered all kinds of things from there. I'm sure the process is simplified from the high-end calendars, so it won't have quite the same look, but will still be very good quality.
They use dye sublimation (is that right) to process most items I believe. Their mugs, etc. look great.
