2 part question??

have any of you seen pink star polyps? my lfs has what looks exactly like gsp but pink in one of their display tanks. 2 why do i have to keep cleaning the glass on my tank? everyday! its just a film covering my glass. rocks look fine and sand looks fine but glass gets dirty looking..(except where the snails go, they leave a trail)..

LOL.... i was expecting a question concerning alkalinity and calcium 2 part dosing.

1. Pink star polyps...yes, i saw them here just the other day for the first time. I thought they looked cool. I still wouldnt trust them in my reef just like the green ones, but thats another issue........

2. 3 part answer. Feed less, skim wetter, get more astreas............ not all necessarily necessary or necessarily in that order.

how big is your tank?? what kind of fish?? What kind of skimmer??

If you are having to clean the glass every day for film algae.......its getting the excess nutrients somewhere.........

110g, 2clowns, 2 firefish, 1 royal gramma, 1 lawnmower blenny, 1 large brittle star, 1 coral banded shrimp, 1 camel shrimp, the snails i mentioned, 2 large golf ball sized hermits, 50 small blue leg hermits, and of cours there's the coral. zoos, paly's, hammer, torch, candy cane, gsp, xenia, and 2 gorg's. plus all the feather dusters, none of whish are very big..and a css 220. it either skims too wet or not at all. i've posted on here about it and no one knows how to fix it. so i let it skim real wet for a couple of hours every day. any suggestions??

I would offer two things.

1. If your skimmer only skims wet or not at all, then skimming only 2 hours per day like you say you are is essentially running a skimmerless tank. You need to fix that skimmer or get another one, OR change 30% of your water every week......it would be much cheaper and more effective in the long run to get a better skimmer or get the one youve got to work a lot better

2. The only other thing i would say is to make sure you are not only using RO/DI water, but that the TDS of the product water is where it should be......zero

Honestly...sounds clearly like a skimming issue

its a brand new skimmer! it skimmed like crazy when i put my slimed up hammer in, but the rest of the time hardly not at all. and i've never checked the ro/di water. its from culligan so i just figure its alright. i dont have a tds meter. and it skims good when i glue something too.

it should have more bubbles, but why doesn't it is the question??? when i first put it on the tank and when i glue something or when the hammer went in the whole canister was completely full of bubbles and it skimmed like crazy. but the rest of the time this is what it looks like and i've cleaned it and adjusted everything thats adjustable on it with no improvements....you can see through most of it while it is running.

There is something wrong. If it forces you to only be able to skim for two hours a day, you are skimming 17% of the time.

2 hours a day is for all intensive purposes.......a skimmerless tank.

I know some people have good things to say about that skimmer. I suggest you find them and find out what is different with how theirs is set up vs. how yours is set up. Ive never used one, so i cant help you there.

But get it figured out and i guarantee your algae problems will improve.

thats what everyone keeps saying, but there is no way for it to get any more air. i even drillied the air intake hole a little bigger to allow for more air flow and that didn't help. i thought about getting a new pump for it but all i know is that it is a rio, don't know what size or any of the other specs. the info that came with it didn't give any specs on the pump.
