13 watts per gallon to much?

On my 50, I have 350 watts in 10k MHs and 300 watts in PC actinics. Is this too much light? I notice that my softies arent doing as well now? I just added the MH recently. Are they just in shock or is this going to be too much light. How much do SPSs need? Also, do they utylse the actinics as much as the 10k MHs?

Yes, I believe that is way too much light. There's a good thread in the think tank regarding lighting and lighting periods right now, might want to check it out.

IMO, all you need is to flip on ONE of the MH's for an hour two or three times a day and then let the actinics on for the day. Aside from that just use the MH for your viewing pleasure.

For more details check out the other thread.

I think that that is enough for a 120 gallon aquarium. maybe since you have the light you could splurge for the 120 gal aquarium and use the 50 gal for the sump that would leave you with about 5.8-6.0 watts/gallon which is the ideal I think ;-). Butt the 13 w/g is wwwaaaaaayyyyyyy too much!!!!! you would burn any corals you put in, not to mention the extra heat you would have to get rid of!
