120 Gallon Tank REBUILD thread.

So, here's the plans.

I'm taking down the tank to do a few things. Every day the list seems to get longer and longer.

1. Replace SB
2. Install a CLS with a Dart pump
3. Replace Sump
4. Upgrade to ASM G3
5. Cook LR
6. Install FlyGuy rock lifts
7. Replace carpet
8. Paint walls
9. Any other home renovations that my wife can dream up.

So far a number of these have already taken place.

I have already set up a temporary 90 (Thanks twitterbait) in my garage. Yesterday I took down the 120 in the family room and now have it all in the 90. With the tank down in the family room, the wife has gotten a bunch of ideas that I have to say are going to be a royal PITA. I should be picking up my Dart shortly and the ASM G3 will be here on the 8th. My sump, according to Fly, could be months away if the builder keeps his reputation.

Pics of the temporary setup in the garage. I have the canopy from my tank sitting on top for lighting. I just received my ASM G3 today and the rest of my bulkheads.

I would put tile or hardwood floors where the tank is to be. Maybe a splash guard around it to keep as much water from carpet as possible. My next tank will go in my computer room and thinking of just removing carpet in this room completly and going stone tile. Much easier to manage should I ever get a flood.

I'd love to make the tank spill proof but I doubt that is feaseable in my situation. We are putting in new carpet soon as it is. If I had tile around the tank I'd still have to have some sort of a curb around it to keep the water contained and I don't know how that would look in the family room. I try to make my tank as spill proof as possible, though adding a CLS isn't helping. My sump should be able to handle a power failure siphon off and my skimmer is in the sump. I've been pretty lucky so far and spills were only in the bottom of the stand.

Yes it's nice having peeps around that are in the hobby. Twitter is a good resource and that is where I got this temporary tank.

I'll be ready soon to drill holes and I'm wondering if you have the correct size hole saws. It looks like I need a 2 3/8"-2.5" and a 1 3/4" hole saws according to savko. Do you have these? I'd also seen your thread on cutting holes and was wondering if I can skip the plumbers putty step and just keep a hose on it while sawing?

its an acrylic tank........just whack it.....no cooling necessary.

Smooth and steady, let the drill do the work and you can save yourself any worry about having to prep

Are you just using standard hole saws or something special?

You can use the same piece of crap holesaws that come in any costco or home depot assorted kit.

: )

Tashier .....I think I have been lieing to you for quite some time now, Not that I want to publically admit this....

Forgive me......

I finally pulled my chiller out of my stand to do some cleaning of it since it is not needed in the winter.......
and it appears I have 1.5" plumbing coming into and out of the DART! (don't hit me)

I have a 2" FPT to slip fitting on the inlet w/ what must be a 1.5" reducer bushing in it....... sorry.

So YES I have 1.5" going in and 1.5" going out!

I KNEW IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh man, you are in some serious trouble. Go back and read all those threads where I kept saying, ARE YOU SURE??!??!?! You lied straight to my face.

Paybacks....

Good thing I haven't really bought anything yet. I just hate the size of those 2" BV's. Suckers are huge or else I might run it into the pump.
