12" T5 bulb or 12 5/8" bulb

This may be a strange question but I was looking for some 12" t5 bulbs. I have found some that are 12" and I have found some that are 12 5/8".

What I was wondering if maybe all the bulbs are considered 12" and maybe some folks take it a bit further and add 5/8" for the end of the bulbs?

Any info would be great cause right now this is driving me insane lol. Thanks

The diameter of flourescent bulbs is measured in 8ths of an inch. A T5 bulb is 5/8ths of an inch in diameter. I think you are seeing the two numbers being placed together. The bulb should be 12inches long and 5/8ths inch in diameter.

T5 is 5/8ths in
T8 is 1 in
T12 is 1.5 in

Thats all that the T# stands for is the bulb diameter.
