11 days S/P Bilateral teniclectomy - pics
(In lay terms Its been 11days since my Heteractis Magnifica had both sides of his tenicles cut off my a Korialia 4 )
Heteractis Magnifica Well he's still alive and eating and hopefull will make it. He's far from out of the woods but I'm happy he made it this far.
Right after I had to Rip him out of the pump
Later that night after he went into shock and hit the heater ( chucks of him melting on heater) This was his worst I did not think he was going to live though the night.

11 days later ....

Very cool, glad it seems to be recoving nicely! I think it is amazing what these animals can go through in our "boxes of water" and survive. Good luck with him.

Incredibly amazing!!!!!!! I can't believe how much better it looks. It should not be alive today, and yet it looks great. Nice tight mouth and plump tentacles. I'm just in shock!!!!!
Can you share with us some details of its environment? Light, flow, food?

okay well I have a 65 gallon tank with 20 gallon wet dry filter/sump,
lighting is 2-150watt hqi MH and 2 65 watt actinic (sp?) moonlights led,
My flow I have 3 Korilia pumps one is 850gallons , 1200gallons and 600
gallons water parms are good . I dosed the tank every couple of days with Coral Vite, Essential Elements and iodide ( kinda over did it .. had a little bit of an algae out break.)
Im feeding raw peeled fresh shrimp about 4 times a week and my clowns feed him flake
Oh I also switched to Tropic Marina salt

I have a quick question ... in this pic his mouth looks good but sometimes it gets even tighter and smaller do you know why ??
Also he has the stumps where he is growing tentacles back . cool huh
I think I'll give him about 4 weeks and see where he's at and if he still looks good and hasn't moved on his own I'm going to take him off the glass.

To do this they have to change their posture. Healthy H. Mags hold their mouths up on a column like yours is doing in the pic. As long as he keeps his mouth closed, I wouldn't worry. It's when their mouths gape open that he's in trouble.

I hate to say this on a public forum, but I think the saving grace for this anemone may be the youth of your aquarium. I am totally guessing here, but the reason it has not fallen victim to an infection my be that the tank is less than two months old. Older, more established reef tanks are bacterial playgrounds. The fact that you are dosing iodine has most likely helped as well. Keep up the good work, and keep us posted.
I think I'll give him about 4 weeks and see where he's at and if he still looks good and hasn't moved on his own I'm going to take him off the glass.
This is a good plan. H. Mag is always headed north. If they can sense a path to higher ground they will take it. If all goes well, in a month, you can find a place in the tank with a rock island. If you turn off the pumps and place the anemone at the peek of the island, it should plant its foot and not move from that spot. If it can expand and touch the glass or a higher rock, you will wake up in the morning with the anemone in a new higher spot. That is if there is no power head in his way. If you look at the pics I posted of my H. Mag, you will notice that he is on the highest rock in the area. He can't quite touch the glass, yet. He has not moved since I placed him in the tank two weeks ago.

Elegance do you have any suggestions on books? I have read a couple and I search the internet but now all the books I find are very basic.
You are very knowledgeable and I know that it comes with time ( not calling you old hehe) and lots of experience, but just wondering if you had any favorites .
Thanks again and have a great Sunday

Here is a link to what most people consider the anemone and clownfish bible. http://www.nhm.ku.edu/inverts/ebooks/intro.html
It has all the info that the book has, only it's free. The book "Anemone Fishes And Their host Sea Anemones" is the same thing as "Field Guide to Anemone Fishes And Their Host Sea Anemones" It doesn't get into the care requirements or personalities of anemones and clown fish, but it has a lot of factual information.
I would suggest getting the three book set "The Reef Aquarium" by Julian Sprung and Charles Delbeek. Here's a link to volume two that covers sea anemones.
http://www.amazon.com/Reef-Aquarium-...=cm_cr_pr_pb_t
These books may be a little more expensive than others, but I believe they are worth it. Just my opinion.
