The XM10K 250W puts out nearly double the highest output 20K, I love the XM10K.

Thats a tough poll because the colors vary quite a bit from brand to brand

Do you supplement with actinics???

What kind of 20k's are you using now??

I think 15k xms's look awesome.............the par sucks on them but they seem to work pretty well for me growthwise and the color is sweet

If you want to see what the color of that 15k xm looks like.....look at one of the last couple posts in my build thread right below this thread at the moment.

My camera is custom white balanced......that is actual color

I personally really dont like the color of that 10k xm bulb. I am interested in finding a bulb with more par and growth for my sps tank........but it isnt going to be that 10k xm im pretty sure.

Some people like a very blue tank, I am not one of them, most of our corals come from very shallow waters and the light spectrum there is more white, much deeper it turns to blue.

To me 20K's seem to kill reds and pinks and yellows, however greens and blues seem to pop out of the tank. I think 10K is a more blanced spectrum that tends to represent all colors, though doen't make any perticular color really pop.

It really comes down to what you like, if you like blue, buy blue.

I like the XM 20k bulbs, they provide a very blue look to the tank without actinic suplimentation. I also bought my halide used and it has an SPS 15k bulb in it, I'm not happy with the color but I can't afford a new bulb right now.

lol yeah its all a preference thing. i was stuck in the same dilema a couple weeks ago. I thought should i get the 250w 10,000k and add actinics or should i get the 14,000k and get less actinics or go for the 20,000k and no actinics. I finally went with the 20k and i am so happy with it. maybe next time ill go with the 14,000 its all really preference and what you have in your tank.
If you have alot of greens like shrooms and star polyps and anything thats blue go for the 20,000k it make them really stand out alot

My preference is the 14K. I like the looks. Corals seem happy so far.

dont know if its just my water but my 10k(pc tho not mh) is really yellow without my actinics, with actinics its just right it seems, be nice to see 14k lights in action, if then i could just run 2 14k without needing the actinics

I agree I also have 320 watts of actinics and it gives a tint of color with the great growth of the XM10K
