1 micron vs 5 micron pre-filters

Can someone explain to me what this means?

I'm trying to buy replacement filter cartridges for my RO/DI unit, and there's
1 micron and 5 micron pre-filters. Which one's are better?

Is that the size of the stuff that can pass through? or is that the size of the filter? They're both the same price, so I'm confused.

I have a 4-stage Kent Maximma Hi-S RO/Di unit. It came with 1 micron, but not sure which to get.

a 1 micron filter will trap particles down to 1 micron, a 5 micron will let anything under 5 micron pass thru, so the 1 filters more stuff.
If it came with a 1 micron, get that, skimping and using a 5 may lead to possible premature wear of the RO membrane

Like Doug said ! filters more fine stuff then a 5 micron.
