Sure, you just coat the infrastructure with several different options. Such as fiberglass. I had the joy of speaking to a guy that made a 10'X8'X30" plywood tank. it turned out fantastic

a LFS around here made a triangular corner plywood tank. it was something like 70-80 gallons it had a glass front. he routered out the face board to seat the glass front into it then siliconed it. he sealed the insides with some kind of marine paint. it looked pretty cool! he had a halide on it and had anemones in it.

I've seen them before
good and bad results
if you do
take your time
IMO, the fiberglass wears down over time in the SW
so an extra coat or 4 of marine epoxy paint is a must

I built a few back in the 70's, Marine Plywood, and fiberglass lined, I second the epoxy coating over the f'glass.
Course Plywood was Cheap then, now a days its about a draw unless you are boing a huge tank. Best suited for an in wall setup, IME

Fiberglass work takes a bit of skill. It requires work with hazordous chemicals and very good ventilation is needed. Hese a link to step by step tank.

57.93 for one gallon (250sq feet) for the epoxy......you dont need the fiberglass, just a good couple 3-4 layers of the epoxy

yep they work fine ! i built a 240 back in the late 80's . the only problem i had back then was having enough money to fill it . but it was very functional and "wood" ,and will do another one if i go bigger .

i would at least do the corners in Fiberglass, then again I have been there and done that, its you Money. Unless its a really big tank, I dont think you will see an appreciable saving, the tank is the cheapest part, see the 1000g build thread in GRD
