? on new skimmer...
I have a 120 gal reef that is in need of a new skimmer . I need with skimmers for this size tank. I would like it to be quality as well as economical since I am not a millionaire . Please let me know what a good skimmer would be (and why if possible).. Thanks a heap...
P.S. - this is an older pic but gives a good idea of my setup.

check out an octopus nw200, i just got that skimmer for a 120, its awsome, but you need to run it in a sump. not sure if you have the room underthere. its easy to operate, just set it up, adjust the water level, and let it go.

How does it deal with power outages? The crappy ones I have now, if the power goes out and it comes back on, they overflow the cup until I dial it back. It gets really irritating....not to mention time consuming..

Check out the ASM G2 or G3! Excellent quality for a fair price! Neither the ASM skimmers, The Octopus Skimmers or most any of the "good" skimmers require adjusting when power is cut and restored. Both are great skimmers but having 3 ASM's myself and being in the business for 25 years I like the ASM's just a bit better.

Yep, I like the needlewheel skimmers too (ASM, octopus, EuroReef, etc). I've got a EuroReef CS250, and it's great. Probably most comparible to the ASM G4 or G5. If you went with ER, maybe the RS135 would be a good option. A little spendier than the octopus, but a little nicer pump/impeller design.

My ASM G3 has been awesome. As mentioned, power outages are a non issue. Set it and forget it except to empty it twice a week.

I have the coralife super skimmer 125 on my tank and love it. You could probably go with the 220 model and be good to go. Also I think flyguy is looking to unload a g-4

I agree with everything said here. Either the NW200 or the G3 if you want to go as economical as possible and still do a great job. I would also agree with crvz and say if you wanted to spend a more money the euroreeef RS-135 or 180 would be quite a bit better than either of those. And for my 3rd agreement of this thread.....im going to agree with luvmylo and say i DO have a used G4+ in perfect shape im looking to unload. Although looking at your sump, im not sure it would fit. its only 24" tall, but it needs a 11.5 x 16" footprint available in your sump.

Hello Guys and Girls,
I was going to inquire if anyone had experience with the Octopus brand, but I see they rate fairly well with y'all. Just shelled out $200 clams for the NW200 to go on my 75g build. Anyone want to tell me if I mucked up?
