Question

??? more sump questions

??? Today was the first steps in getting the sump set up in the basement. Table is set up, moved the R.O storage and the sakt water storage, now i have room. I have a 125 up top around 100 l.b.s l.r. Almost all of the Bio balls are out and nitrates and amonia are cool. If i add 100 gallon sump in the basement, i will use 60 gallons more water. Will i need to add 60 l.b.s of live rock in the sump also?#1 and can i hook up the sump to the tank and start running or do i cycle the sump stuff first?#2 and wait two mnths or so / don't want to crash the whole mess Do i keep light to the sump or just the light in the room? sorry for all the questions, you guys have been great in the past.

I would. I have 125 sump and I will have roughly 150# of LR in it. Its not necessary though. As long as the LR you have will process the nutrients you have in the water column. Are you gonna have a sand bed or?

"and can i hook up the sump to the tank and start running or do i cycle the sump stuff first?"

If you add the LR to the sump and you have animals in your tank I would cycle it till your readings are normal in the sump, then, combine the two remembering to do it very slowly as to not shock the animals.

Do i keep light to the sump or just the light in the room?

Is the sump doubling as a fuge with calerpa? If so then yes put a fairly bright light on the sump on a reverse schedule as your tank.

I don't think it's nessesary to add live rock in the sump. I could be wrong though (I hope not cause I don't have live rock in mine)
