?? Min for a metal halide light

I just bought a 250 w MH light cam with a 5k bulb
I know this isn't enough for a reef tank(I will put on my 55 for now, which is FishOnly now) but what ware the suggestions for a bulb and where is the best place to get it? Can I get away with the 5k for now??
Also is this to much for a 29?
Thanks

You should be okay for now. I would highly suggest you upgrade to atleast a 10k bulb. IME, hellolights.com has really good deals and has a new buble out which looks awesome.

Hi, you should be ok, I had 4500k's for a long time in the early 90's. That 250watter will light half your tank, but you could keep low light softies on the other side. If you have actinic flourescents already they should help with the yellow tint your bulb puts out. Hellolights has a new bulb a zion or something like that 10,000k, I just ordered one. $65

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the help I will check out the new lights. One additional question. How far away from the water and the top of the hood should the light go. I am either going to put it in the existing hod I made or make a new one with the actinic lights I have.
Thanks
