It'll look nasty, but its ok. There won't be any detritus collecting in it, so the algae won't hurt anything. Just let it go, maybe replace that lil filter at the bottom every 6 months to a year.

I've implemented my SS65 into my sump and a HOB sump skimmer. The way I set everythinng up I use my sump baffle as my bubble trap and no longer need the one it came with.

I'm using a 10g for a sump, I have basically no room either. Sure you can't get away with a 10g in there?

If not you could build your own stand and make it exactly what you want for not a lot of $. That might be the route to go. You'll be much happier with your tank I think. It really cleans up the display a lot moving all the equipment down underneath.

Backpressure is part of your problem. Your drainpipe won't work the way you have it installed, that is why closing the valve isn't making much adjustment. The drain has to be open to breathe. The drain that came with the skimmer had a small air vent at the top of the drain line to allow this. If you want to modify the drain, use pvc. You need to reuse the elbow with the air vent or put a tee as part of the drain and leave the top of the tee open. 1/2in pvc fits right into Coralife 65 drain connection. Here are some pics of mine.

at the top of the end cap theres a 1/4 inch hole there should i make it bigger? 3/8? or put a one more T ate the beginning with end cap and a 1/4 in hole in it so that i would have two vents. if i dont plug that first vent it shoots water out like a fountain. even with a air line tube on the vent that is open.

Water is shooting out the hole because your drain is submerged. You cannot submerge the end of the drainline very far, if at all. If you have a tee installed, you need to put a piece of pvc into the top of the tee to raise it higher and then install the cap with a hole in it. The drain should end right at or just below the surface.

Yes but not quite. Use a short piece of pvc to connect the tee to the skimmer drain instead. The top piece in the tee needs to be longer so the cap is higher up. The piece that goes down to your bubble trap needs to end right at or just below the waterline.
